Posted 7 Nov 2024 by JayFortune Post: Just to say Hello! I'm Jay, one of the creative peeps behind this new project. I'm not a scientist or geneticist. I am a magician (for real!). That's one of the skills that has made this project a reality. One or our team proposed the whole idea of de-extinction to me and so I thought I'd get stuck in, recruit some other magician friends (who are also brainiacs!) and see how it could be possible... but from a magician's perspective. After all, magicians do things science can't (!), such as levitating, mind-reading and passing one solid object through another (at least, we appear to!). So, how would a magician approach the 'impossible' problem of de-extinction? One of the tools we developed is the software for DODO@Home, allowing us to analyse the vast data in the evolutionary genomes of the Dodo's ancestry. From there... we are on the path to creating a full dodo genome. And after that? That's where the ream magic begins! Hope to have many others help on this exciting journey. Let's go! Jay. |
